OEM radios lock when they lose power or detect that they may have been removed from the original vehicle. This is an anti-theft function used by Renault, Dacia, Ford, Nissan and many other brands.
How to unlock it safely
Typical causes include battery replacement, a flat battery, alternator work, service repairs, radio replacement or repeated wrong code entry.
- Turn the ignition on and power the radio.
- Display or read the precode/serial number.
- Use the correct calculator for that input format.
- Enter the four digit code carefully and confirm it.
Important notes
The correct fix is to identify the radio system and use the proper precode or serial number. Guessing the code is risky.
When the online method may not work
The calculator method is intended for supported OEM units. It may not work for aftermarket radios, VIN-paired multimedia systems, damaged displays, locked dealer-only units or radios that have already been replaced with a different model.
